Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book you for a job?
Once you feel you are ready to start the conversation, head over to the Contact Page and fill out the form with your information and some information about the project requirements or idea. Alternately you can text me or email me using the contact info at the top right of this page. Phone calls are generally discouraged as I have my phone on silent while I’m in the booth recording and may miss your communication.
It’s a good thing to have the following information prepared prior to contacting me or any voice actor as it will allow us to properly set expectations based on your project:
- Have your script ready
- Know how and for how long the audio will be used
- Please review my Retakes, Revisions, and Artificial Intelligence Policies
- Have a good idea of what your project turnaround requirements are
What are your Studio Hours?
I am in my studio Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm. You can text me, email me, or use the Contact Form to communicate with me outside of those hours; however, outside of working hours I prioritize my personal life and family. You can expect to receive a response during the following business day although I have been known to reply to quick inquiries if I happen to have a moment.
Generally, I observe and take all United States Federal Holidays off. I am also closed the day after Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas and New Year.
If I am planning a longer vacation or need to be out of my studio during a normal business day, I always send an advisory email to my client list. In order to be added to that list, please contact me via email or the Contact Form and ask to be added to my Studio Advisory communications list.
Can I afford you? What are your rates?
Yes, you can afford me. I’ll bet if you’re looking to hire voice talent you already have some sort of budget in mind. I am more than happy to discuss your project and your budget. Together we can come up with a plan that works for everyone.
How are rates quoted?
There are several factors that are considered for each quote:
Genre
What type of project is it? For example, broadcast commercial, corporate narration, explainer video, telephony (IVR or message on hold), eLearning, medical narration, etc.Length
How long is the finished project? This can be measured in time, word count, or page count depending on the genre.Usage
Where and how will the product be used? For broadcast (TV and/or radio, which markets, how many markets, size of markets), web (on a website, for paid web advertising, social media, YouTube, etc), internal corporate use, etc. For a good explanation of usage for those who hire voiceover, click here. If I don’t know the usage, I can’t accurately quote the project.Duration
How long will the voiceover be used? 3 months? 6 months? 1 year?Budget
Hopefully, you’ve done your homework and have a reasonable, fair market value budget in mind. If not, I can provide objective, industry-standard information to educate you on reasonable rates when you contact me.
How should I prepare my script?
For shorter scripts or timed scripts it is usually a good idea to read your script aloud to yourself to get a sense of timing so you can be realistic about the content and the timing. If you can’t fit your copy into 30 seconds chances are I can’t either! At least not without making it sound like I’m an auctioneer.
Spell out odd words, names, places, and websites phonetically so that I know how to pronounce them. For example, do you want your website address delivered as “dot O-R-G” or “.org”?
Will you produce a custom demo?
Thank you for asking! I am always happy to provide a custom sample for your project. My highest priority is to make the process easy for you, and to provide you with an excellent product so that you are happy with the result. That means you need to find the right voice and delivery. If you provide me with a sample of your script I am happy to turn around a short demo so you can hear what it might sound like.
Please be clear with your direction and the type of read and delivery you are looking for.
You can either email your script to me directly at [email protected] or reach out via the Contact Page and we can discuss it via email.
Can I get a retake on my audio?
Of course you can! It’s your project and it’s important to me that you are totally satisfied. If you’d like to tweak the read or the delivery a bit that’s well within reason. If you decide you’d like a retake because you’ve altered the script then additional fees may apply.
How will my finished audio be delivered?
In most cases delivering you audio by email is easiest. If email does not work for you or if the file size is too large I can also deliver by sending you a Google Drive link. I am also happy to upload it to your Dropbox, secure FTP server, or other destination.
If you’d prefer a hard copy of your audio I am more than happy to send a CD or thumb drive by mail or courier to your address.
How can I pay for my audio?
I will send you an invoice via Square or PayPal as both are super easy to use, convenient, and you can pay using a credit card with no additional fees. I will also accept check or money orders if that is necessary.
What is your turnaround time?
Since I work full-time as a Voice Talent I am able to offer quick turnaround times. In many cases I can complete your project within 2 – 8 hours depending on the length of the script and when I receive it. In all cases, I do my best to deliver moderate sized scripts within 24 hours or less.
For longer projects such as eLearning narrations or audiobooks the delivery time may be longer simply due to script size. In this case we can discuss the length and come to a mutually acceptable delivery timeline.
If you’d like a time estimate on your specific project please contact me and we can discuss the details.
Are you a union actor?
No, at this time I am not a part of a union and work independently.
What audio formats do you use?
I save all of my raw recordings as 48kHz 24-Bit WAV files for maximum fidelity; however, I can provide you with finished and edited high quality audio in pretty much any audio format you are considering including WAV, MP3, OGG, and AIFF. If you’re using something very obscure please let me know and I will confirm that it is possible to provide.
